We adopted a less STUFFed stocking tradition a few years ago while paying off student loans. I’m stoked about it this year, especially since it’s been a year of growth for us.
Along with a couple little consumable gifts, we stuff our stockings with mushy little notes to each other. We recount the trials we experienced, how much we love each other, ways we’ve seen God move, and funny memories from the year that we’ll want to remember down the road.
So, while my husband’s out running Christmas errands this evening, I’ll sit down with a cup of tea, my photos from the year, my journal and bible, and a big stack of note cards and write to my husband.
I’m looking forward to another, less-cluttered Christmas morning filled with laughter and some happy tears.
Merry Christmas!
I love this so much! Now I know how I’ll fill our stockings this year! I planned to put an orange in each of our stockings to eat together on Christmas morning and serve as a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a time and place where oranges are no longer a rare treat. But I love the note card idea as well! What better gift is there than encouraging one another and remembering those important moments?! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much!! I was JUST commenting to my husband, while eating oranges for breakfast, how much I loved getting oranges in my stocking as a kid! I really love your intentionality!! We’re on our fourth year of writing notes to each other in our stockings and looking forward to it again.
